Mozambique is increasingly asserting itself not only as an emerging market, but also as fertile ground for creativity, innovation and cultural production with global impact. In this context emerges Euforia Filmes, a Mozambican startup focused on producing short and feature films rooted in strong national identity and social relevance.

Founded by Joseph Mata and Ariel Añez, Euforia Filmes was created with the mission of telling Mozambican stories from within, valuing local narratives, real characters and social realities. More than producing films, the startup seeks to build a cinematic language connected to memory, culture and social transformation.

Cinema as Identity and Impact

Euforia Filmes goes beyond entertainment. Its projects use audiovisual storytelling as a tool for reflection, awareness and preservation of Mozambican identity, while positioning local stories on international platforms.

“Our goal is for the world to see Mozambique not only through statistics, but through the human stories that define us,” say the founders.

Submergido

Mozambique on the International Stage

The company’s latest work, Submergido, marks a significant milestone. The short film was selected for the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), one of the world’s most prestigious cinema festivals, held in the Netherlands.

This selection places both Euforia Filmes and Maochas Filmes, Mozambique within a competitive global circuit, opening doors for partnerships, distribution and international recognition of African cinema.

An Authorial Work with a Mozambican Signature

Submerged was written and directed by Ariel Añez and had Executive Production by Joseph Mata and Ivandro Maochas, reflecting both creative and strategic leadership from the founders.

Story of War, Memory and Childhood

The film tells the story of Pércio, a boy who maintains a special emotional connection with his father, who disappeared during the armed conflict in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique. Through a sensitive and poetic lens, the film explores absence, hope and the silent impact of war on childhood.

A Creative Startup in Africa’s Growing Ecosystem

Euforia Filmes is part of a new generation of African creative startups combining art, entrepreneurship and social impact. Beyond production, the company invests in youth training, collaborative networks and the internationalization of Mozambican cinema.

By telling local stories with universal language, Euforia Filmes places Mozambique on the global map of cultural innovation.
